Cool Pools Design – Rock House

This particular cool pools design project put Marquise Pools on the map for creating or elevating a shape that no one else has ever seen. This particular client was one of the ones that pushed the creative limits of our team and said You do what you see and what you vision that replicates a house that is 28,000 square feet ventilated. Just the sheer scale of the house created a challenge for us to create a water body or a series of water bodies that mimic the scale of the home.

In turn, what this did is created 8,000 square feet of water surface area, close to 300,000 gallons of water, 18 high capacity pumps and 2,700 square feet of one-inch individually laid glass tile. So just the sheer numeric combination of those three specs gives the viewer an idea of how massive and impressive the swimming pool is.

The cool pools design swimming pool is comprised of three levels of water the highest point being the spa which dumps in a river and then dumps into the upper recreational pool. And when we say recreational pool that’s a shallow deep shallow scenario so that we can do volleyball and basketball. That recreational pool dumps into the lower plunge pool which is where all the diving and can openers and jumps off of the grotto happen. That area is 14 feet deep. The sheer wall at the top of the grotto to the bottom of the pool is 32 feet in vertical elevation change which is unbelievable engineering feat.

The grotto itself is 1500 square feet. It’s ventilated. It has a game room. It has a bathroom. It has a wine storage area. It has private showers. It has its own beach entry. It has TV and it has a 400-gallon acrylic custom saltwater reef aquarium.

When you swim in you see this reef as you come out of the beach. The main formal room is supported by a custom gunited tree with a table around it for viewing TV and having snacks in the water. When you swim into this grotto it feels like to go into another world. To add up all the square footage in that grotto equates to 1,500 square feet on the lower story. So, then you go up a series of stairs to the roof and on the roof, there is a river with a little play stream.

There’s a synthetic lawn sitting area with an umbrella and then there’s the tube slide which is 37 feet long. It drops 14 feet in elevation, plunges you out three and a half feet above the water and you’re dumped into a 14-foot-deep plunge pool area. It is the most incredible grotto design that I’ve ever seen. We’ve seen a lot of grottos on HGTV cool pools design and everywhere else around the world. This one pretty much takes the cake when you talk about grotto design.

The second most impressive feature about this pool is a cantilevered disk that actually levitates off the upper pool down to the lower pool. It’s cladded in all glass tile and it has a rain curtain that shears off of the lip. The kiddos can jump off the top of the rain disk into the lower pool so it’s a jump platform. They can also swim under it to create another auxiliary cave effect behind the rain curtain. So that’s a very neat feature as well.

The beach entry on the lower area is about 1,600 square feet of sandy beach with an area for chase lounges and umbrellas. And then we put the drink rocks to put your cell phone your sunglasses and your tanning lotion so you can hang out in the beach. It’s just an incredible combination of curves, elevations, and drama. It is one of the most impressive pools in the entire Woodlands area. It has won multiple APSP awards. It has been featured on HGTV as a cool pools design. It is highly publicized and still today competes with pools at the national and global level.
